Asylum [US Version] | Kill Shelter (bandcamp.com)
Kill Shelter, the project of UK based music producer and artist, Pete Burns, just released their third studio album “Asylum” which “celebrates over 40 years of alternative and underground music and includes inspiring collaborations with Ronny Moorings (Clan of Xymox), Agent Side Grinder, Ash Code, Stefan Netschio (Beborn Beton), William Faith (The Bellwether Syndicate / Faith and the Muse), Valentina Veil (VV & the Void) and Antipole.”
I always look forward to anything Pete Burns has a hand in. From the first Kill Shelter release “Damage” in 2019 to the recent 2021 collab with Antipole on “A Haunted Place”, Burns’ ability to take the seemingly disparate vocal talent sets of his collaborators and weave them into a whole that feels completely natural.
“Asylum” is a 9 track release themed around different interpretations of what asylum means. This release sees Burns take Kill Shelter into heavier electronic territory alongside tracks very core to the streamlined goth rock instrumentals the band is known for. Tracks like Feed the Fire ft Ash Code are an interesting development of the Kill Shelter sound. Also, shout out to the mid album instrumental interlude Crossing Borders. I always dig a good refresher.

Fave tracks:
The Necklace ft Agent Side Grinder - This was the first single put on for the album and I can’t get enough of it. I love the guitar work and being a huge fan of Agent Side Grinder, it’s unsurprising that it’s been on repeat.
Feed the Fire ft Ash Code - There’s something about the use of electronics on this track. The synths and effects set this track apart for me. Not just from the rest of the album, but past works as well.
