Review: Echoberyl - Apparition

Echoberyl is an Italian and French collaboration between Adriano Iacoangeli (Music) andCecilia Dassonneville (Vox). “Apparition” marks the duo’s first effort as a music project. And what an effort it is! The music is decidedly what I’d call “Shadow Wave” as it draws from classic artists in the Dark/Coldwave genre yet remains part of the new elite bands making their voices (and instruments) heard around the world.

Released July 27th on Swiss Dark Nights, this is a fantastic long-player with diverse styles and tempo’s for listening and great dancing too. The album begins with Broken Pieces, which is uptempo and brilliant musically and vocally. This is followed by the title track Apparition which is somewhat more somber and subdued yet equally entrancing and beautiful. I especially loved Altered as it’s composition proved the most unique. Other tracks of note on this album are Dark Embrace Me and the delicate Floating.

This whole album is a gem and I wanted to make sure I took in it’s full breath and scope before reviewing. The multi-instrumental efforts of Adriano and the effortless vocal style of Cecilia make for an ear-opening major effort in this burgeoning group of Artists bringing new life to a great style of music. I hope you will go to Youtube and Bandcamp to hear this new band already creating (on their initial effort) a dance floor worthy impact that greatly adds to my collection. Can’t wait for more.

You can find Echoberyl on Bandcamp and Facebook. Check out their latest music video for Rectangle over on YouTube.
